Online Courses for Immigrating Nurses

Even though nursing care is a universal skill across cultures and borders, nursing practice can vary among different countries. The following online courses at Austin Community College (ACC) are recommended as a helpful review of nursing practice and medical terminology in the United States. The information taught in these courses will give international nurses a head start in working in the United States healthcare system.

RNSG 1006 Re-Entry Nursing Update

Online course is designed for 1) the currently licensed RN nurse who has been away from the clinical setting for a period of time, 2) the nurse who is applying for reinstatement of licensure, or 3) the nurse who is applying for Texas licensure coming from another state or country. This course provided a good introduction to basic nursing practice in the United States. Course includes: current role of the nurse, nursing process, basic pharmacology, medication administration, IV, phlebotomy, documentation, QA and legal issues.

HPRA 1006 Essentials of Medical Terminology

A study of word origin and structure through the introduction of prefixes, suffixes, root words, plurals, abbreviations and symbols, surgical procedures, medical specialties, and diagnostic procedures. Integrated with college credit HPRS 1206.
