Jim Burgess, Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) / SHRM-SCP has been in the HR profession for an uninterrupted 30+ year career in all phases of HR, including HR DIRECTOR for over 10+ years in local government, corporate, higher education, international & the Federal Government. With his extensive HR experience, he is knowledgeable in all HR matters having implemented all laws passed since ADA to the PPACA. As an HR Director, he successfully assisted in defending (and winning) the biggest public agency Whistleblower Lawsuit in Travis County for his local government agency. He was an HR Risk Manager for 5 years and through his Risk Management efforts significantly reduced his agency's Workers Compensation costs, saving his organization millions of dollars. He has served as a Benefits Manager for 10+ years, is a GBA (Group Benefits Associate), an RPA (Retirement Planning Associate) and is within the final 2 elective courses of a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) certification. At the present time, he functions as the Performance and Awards Manager in a government agency. During his HR career he successfully participated and trained employees in five (5) HRIS shared database conversions for different corporations, government & higher educational institutions besides being a successful independent HR consultant and higher education platform instructor. Well versed in all phases of HR, his focus is on Labor Relations, Risk Management, Compensation & Benefits, Strategic Management, and HR Development and is familiar with all of the past HRIS certification courses, as well as the present SHRM certification courses. As a graduate (B.S) of the US Air Force Academy, with his past HR experience, he brings an extensive amount of real life working HR experiences to his certification training presentations.
