Beginning Modern Dance
Instruction in the fundamental techniques and concepts associated with the concert form of modern dance. Combined with credit DANC-1245.

Beginning Ballet
Instruction in the fundamental techniques and concepts associated with ballet. Combined with credit DANC-1241.

Beginning Jazz Dance
Instruction in the fundamental techniques and concepts associated with jazz dance. Combined with credit DANC-1247.

Dance Composition - Improvisation
This introductory course in improvisation will investigate spontaneous problem solving as a means of generating movement for dance composition. Students will be called upon to explore and respond to various forms of stimuli in a safe and supportive learning environment within solo and group work. Combined with credit DANC-1201.

Dance Appreciation
A general survey of dance forms designed to create an appreciation of the vocabulary, techniques and purposes of the creative process. This course includes critical interpretation and evaluations of choreographic works and dance forms within cultural and historical contexts. Combined with credit DANC-2303.

Dance Composition - Choreography
This course is an examination of the principles of movement generation, phrasing, choreographic structure and motif manipulation. Integration of choreographic principles will foster the growth of personal artistic style. Combined with credit DANC-1301.

Dance Improvisation I
Introductory course designed for the beginning dance student. Improvisational dance techniques provide opportunities for students to explore and expand their personal range of creativity, movement and awareness. Activities include exercises and information on body alignment, muscular development and effective relaxation/breathing techniques. Combined with credit DANC 2145.

Dance Performance Workshop
Rehearsals and performances of dance works under the direction of faculty or guest choreographers. Combined with credit DANC-1351.

Dance Practicum
Practicum in dance related topics with emphasis on practical skills necessary for the field. May be repeated for credit once. Student choreography. Includes performance opportunity. Combined with credit DANC-1112.

Freshman Dance Performance
Instruction in dance performance through experiential projects at the freshman level. Combined with credit DANC-1151.

Intermediate Ballet
Instruction in the intermediate techniques and concepts associated with ballet. Combined with credit DANC-2241.

Intermediate Jazz Dance
Instruction in the intermediate techniques and concepts associated with jazz dance. Combined with credit DANC-2247.

Intermediate Modern Dance
Instruction in the intermediate techniques and concepts associated with the concert form of modern dance. Combined with credit DANC-2245.

Introduction to Dance Composition
Development of basic principles and theories involved in composition. Emphasis is placed on movement principles, group and structural forms. Combined with credit DANC-1101.

Modern Dance I
Introductory course in the fundamentals of modern dance technique. Students learn and practice warm-up exercises and dance sequences emphasizing articulation and coordination of body parts, rhythm, musicality and expressive qualities of movement. Combined with credit DANC 1145.

Sophomore Dance Performance
Instruction in dance performance through experiential projects at the sophomore level. Combined with credit DANC-2151.

World Dance
A survey of dances from different cultures, their histories, and their influences on contemporary dance and society. Cultural origins, significance, motivations and techniques will be explored experientially. Classes meet two days/week in the classroom plus one day/week in the dance studio. No previous dance experience necessary. Combined with credit DANC-1305.
