A playful approach conducive to the beginner, this class allows any individual an opportunity to experience living in the imaginary world of a character and a story while expanding their own self-expression and emotional life. Students will learn how to investigate a script as well as explore their own intuition through games, exercises, and scenes from film and stage. The class is designed to be taken more than once, as it is different in meaningful ways each time — ever-changing with the instructor, fellow students, and the material chosen for the class. In addition, while we are a professional training school, our beginning courses are for anyone who is curious about acting, seeking to expand their creativity, wanting a new challenge, or just to have fun.
Introduction to stone setting with an emphasis on precision placement, secure mounting, and prevention of stone damage through proper use of tools. Corequisite: JLRY-1001 (can be taken previously or concurrently). Combined with credit JLRY-1441.
Facilitating the use of public transportation enhances opportunities for independent living and competitive, community-based employment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Learning to independently use public transportation increases access to autonomous activities, such as opportunities to work and to attend post-secondary education programs on large college campuses. Students will be taught to read Bus Maps/Routes, use GPS-based applications, and access public transportation (Bus, Light Rail, walking, etc.).
Assessment test of language fluency for students entering the Translating and Interpreting field. Successfully passing this test is a prerequisite for enrollment into FRNL 1071 and FRNL 1074.
Continue the development of jewelry fabrication skills to include precision layout, sawing, and filing; complex assembly tasks; and finishing to professional standards. Prerequisite: JLRY-1001. Combined with credit JLRY-1402.
A survey of popular and traditional social and ballroom dances including the Waltz, Fox Trot, Polka, Swing, Cha-Cha, Tango, Latin Rhythms, Country Western, and other current dances. This class focuses on acting for both the camera and the stage. Students will learn how to develop characters and create relationships explored through improvisation, imagination work, and monologue/scene study. There will be some videotaping and playback with instructor feedback. Ages 13-17. Under the age of 13 requires instructor approval. This class may be repeated for ongoing study and is appropriate for all levels. Students will always receive new scripts. Limited to 12 students.
