A study of the theories and principles of behavior management, cognitive theories and techniques. Emphasis will be on their applications including managing self-behavior. In-depth study will be in operant conditioning techniques. Integrated with credit PSYT-2345.
An introduction to stress defusing interventions. Topics include types of stress, the effects of stress on the body (mind, body) and different stress management strategies. Students will identify stressors in their environment, interventions that they may be interested in using, and tips for remembering to use their stress techniques.
Continuation and progression from beginning tennis. Students with mastery of fundamental strokes will learn through play and instruction in the more advanced strategies and skills. General Botany for Landscape Design & Horticulture
An introduction to basic botany as it directly relates to horticulture and landscaping. This course will cover the fundamentals of: plant biology, plant growth, plant development, plant anatomy, photosynthesis, respiration/transpiration, and various factors that can affect plant development in a cultivated environment.
*This class is taught asynchronously, which means there are no set meeting times and the students are able to complete the lessons and activities at their own pace through Blackboard. However, live sessions will be held as needed. The information will be posted to Blackboard Announcements.
This is a course to not only improve reading proficiency but also increase the appreciation of reading. It teaches language through reading and vocabulary. It is for students who need either to improve or review basic reading and vocabulary skills in English. Word attack skills, phonics, and syllabication are some of the skills that are introduced during the course. In addition, students will distinguish between topics, main ideas, supporting details and develop critical thinking skills in analyses of academic and literary works. Integrated with credit ESOL-0314.
A survey of popular and traditional social and ballroom dances including the Waltz, Fox Trot, Polka, Swing, Cha-Cha, Tango, Latin Rhythms, Country Western, and other current dances. This course is designed specifically for adults 18+ with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Students explore office procedures including appointment scheduling, records creation and maintenance, interpersonal communications, bookkeeping tasks, coding, billing, collecting, third party reimbursement, credit arrangements, and computer use in the office.
