Course Description

This course provides a basic overview of security concepts/techniques/technologies, risk analysis/management, disaster recovery, security plans, and incident recovery, and gives a firm foundation for more advanced security certifications/roles. This material is targeted toward an Information Technology (IT) professional who has networking and administrative skills in TCP/IP networks and familiarity with a networkable operating system (such as NetWare, UNIX/Linux, or Microsoft), who wants to: further a career in IT by acquiring a foundational knowledge of security topics; prepare for the CompTIA Security+ Certification examination; or use Security+ as the foundation for advanced security certifications or career roles. Book may be purchased from the ACC HLC Bookstore 512-474-2607. Suggested prerequisites: CompTIA A+ and Network+ certifications, or equivalent knowledge.

Meet The Instructor

David L. Gray

Dave Gray is a CISSP, CAP, PMP and ITIL certified Information Technology Leader skilled in securing information systems to achieve information confidentiality, integrity and availability. Dave promotes IT as a key enabler for organizational and enterprise success ensuring information is protected. Dave's focus is securing information systems' Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability through Governance, Risk Management and Compliance (GRC) using information security frameworks established by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Dave retired in 2011 from the Texas Army National Guard as a Lieutenant Colonel where he managed IT Operations and Information Security for 5,000 network users spread across Texas. During his time with the military Dave established one of the first (one of five) Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERT) in the country for the National Guard and conducted multiple information security assessments for the National Guard and the active Army. Prior to working with Information Security, Dave flew AH1 Cobra helicopters for the military and worked for Texas Instruments and Raytheon as an Oracle Database Administrator and Project Manager. In addition to his role as the CyberSecurity Program Manager for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, Dave teaches local community college classes for the CISSP and ITIL certifications.
