People gravitate to technology to solve problems. Python is a programming language that lets you work quickly to solve these problems. If you are interested in learning Python, this is the class for you. We will emphasize learning the basics of programming using Python, so you can leverage the reference book to solve real-world issues on your own upon course completion. Suggested prerequisite: General computing knowledge and a desire to learn programming with Python.
Instruction in the intermediate techniques and concepts associated with ballet. This is a ballet technique class. Prerequisites: BSKX-5041 or DANC-1241 or instructor approval. Public Speaking is the application of communication theory and practice within the public speaking context. Emphasis is placed on speaking publicly without stress, audience analysis, speaker delivery, ethics of communication, cultural diversity, and speech organizational techniques in order to develop students' speaking abilities, as well as the ability to effectively evaluate oral presentations. Additional emphasis placed on the use of verbal and non-verbal skills to make points clear and effective.
Ethical considerations based on social and human services standards. Includes comparison of ethical codes, confidentiality, dual relationships, guidelines for web counseling, ethical considerations dealing with broadcast media, diversity and multiculturalism. Integrated with college credit SCWK 1303.
Special skills and techniques in the application of counseling skills for the Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) client. Development and utilization of advanced treatment planning and management. Includes review of confidentiality and ethical issues. Integrated with college credit DAAC 2341.
This special populations course is designed to provide an overview of the special education process while focusing on various types of learners with special needs, including children with disabilities, gifted learners, and children at risk such as homeless and migrant children. Topics include: legal requirements and laws, topics on public laws relating to individuals with disabilities, categories of exceptionality, identification and intervention, collaboration, identification and assessment of children, inclusion, and planning, delivering, and documenting educational services. The readings and activities are chosen with the intent to prepare you both for the Special Education Supplemental TExES Exam as well as your first year as a special education and/or classroom educator.
