Enables students to synthesize knowledge, apply skills in a clinical setting, and develop experience managing workflow. In this capstone course, students integrate skills, knowledge and abilities acquired in all massage technique courses as they perform massage at an on campus practicum site. Students will be under the direct supervision is provided by a licensed massage therapy instructor on the staff at Austin Community College Locations. Introduction to yoga including traditional yoga postures emphasizing flexibility, breathing and relaxation techniques as well as careful attention to alignment in classical yoga poses. Step-by-step instruction in how to develop a business plan for a small business start-up or expansion that can be submitted to a financial institution or used for implementation. Emphasis on importance of the plan, components, format, and considerations.
Facilitating the use of public transportation enhances opportunities for independent living and competitive, community-based employment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Learning to independently use public transportation increases access to autonomous activities, such as opportunities to work and to attend post-secondary education programs on large college campuses. Students will be taught to read Bus Maps/Routes, use GPS-based applications, and access public transportation (Bus, Light Rail, walking, etc.).
Study of fundamentals of German: conversation, basic writing, listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary building, grammar, and culture. This course fosters understanding of German-speaking people through cultural comparison and development of written and spoken communication.
This class is recommended for educational aides/paraprofessionals to become familiar working with special education students. This course covers Special Education topics such as IDEA, FAPE, IEP, physically impaired students, crisis intervention and LRE. Assessments are performance-based and take place throughout the course. An introductory course to the fundamentals of volleyball including passing, serving, setting, and spiking. Students will learn rules and court strategy for playing the game.
