Much like the words quantum physics, the term music theory strikes dread in the hearts of many a singer and instrumentalist. But fear not! Unlike Quantum physics, music theory is actually not rocket science. Instructor Adam Roberts may hold a master’s degree in music theory, but rest assured that this class will start from the very beginningâ€"a very good place to start. Students will learn what Do, Re, and Mi is all about, and why they are the building blocks of music theory. Included will be how to identify keys, time signatures, note names, and basic chord structures. Far from being a dry academic lecture, this class is geared toward practical applications of music theory for singers, musicians, and songwriters, like basic skills in sight-reading, fluency with common musical terms and learning why one chord follows another. Online platform: Zoom. Materials needed: internet connection & audio/video capability with computer or tablet.
