IIntroduction to Writing Young Adult Fiction. Focus on the novel. Prerequisite: English 1301

Young Adult Fiction is the world of the teen protagonist: their hopes, doubts, desires, dreams. Intro to Writing YA Fiction will help you build those teen characters, create the worlds (Contemporary, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Dystopian) they live in and shape those stories with dialogue and plot. No previous creative writing is required. This class will ask you to trust your creative impulses through assignments and prompts while teaching you craft tools to shape your stories in your own unique voice. We will use an inclusive, anti-racist approach to sharing our work by listening, learning and creating together as a way to grow our own creative process.

Playwriting Concentration. Prerequisite: English 1301. Introduction to writing dramatic literature.  No previous Creative Writing is required. Flash Fiction Concentration. Required: ENGL 1301. Gain confidence in your unique narrative voice and write the stories only you can tell, through immersive reading of contemporary and classic works of literary fiction, lively online discussion and opinion sharing, and a deep dive into the basics of fiction writing. Course instruction is online. Tests may also be taken online. Some tests may require proctoring. Students can access online proctoring on their own computer for a fee of approximately $20/hour, in-person proctoring at an approved testing site that may charge a fee or in-person proctoring at an ACC Instructional Testing Center for free. Online courses eliminate geography as a factor. For MANDATORY online orientation information email the instructor during the 1st week of class.

We will accomplish this as a group by exploring various memoir pieces through both reading and writing. Our goals are to sharpen your writing and develop your writing voice. No textbook required. Coursework can be completed fully online with weekly deadlines. There are no in-person requirements. 

Screenwriting Concentration.
