Your Style Brought To Life

Austin Community College's Continuing Education department is excited to bring the world of fashion to our classrooms with our Fashion Design Certificate Programs!

Three Certificates will be available:

  • Fashion Design - available now
  • Fashion Technical Designer - coming in 2019
  • Fashion Entrepreneur/Business Ownership - coming in 2019

Fashion Design

The Fashion Design Certificate will emphasize on the creation of clothing. Students will be encouraged to develop their personal vision and design philosophy while deepening their understanding of the various domestic and international market segments. Students will move from concept to production, learning drawing, draping, patternmaking, sewing, tailoring and specialty techniques.

The following classes are needed to complete the Fashion Certificate program:

  • Introduction to Fashion
  • Fashion Illustration
  • Textiles for Fashion Design
  • Patternmaking for Fashion Design
  • Draping and Construction
  • Fashion Illustrator Media
  • Sewing Foundations for Fashion Design
  • Garment Construction I

Fashion Technical Design and Production

The Technical Design and Production Certificate will emphasize on creating Technical Packages. Once you have a sketch, you can begin to create a Technical Package (TP). A TP's basic pages are Sewing Details, Points of Measurement, Wash Description, Label/Hangtag Placement, Bill of Materials and Packaging Instructions. The Technical Designer works as a liaison between Design and Production. They are essentially the engineers of fashion. Once a garment has been designed, someone has to figure out how to make it!

The courses needed to complete the Fashion Technical and Production Certificate are coming soon.

Fashion Entrepreneur / Business Ownership

This program will emphasize the intimate connection of design, merchandising, and marketing in the fashion business. The program will prepare the student for areas of the fashion industry, including public relations, trend forecasting, product placement and marketing.
