This class is designed for actors with prior training who are beginning their professional acting journey, seeking representation, or interested in learning about the business of acting. Students will learn what makes a professional headshot, how to build and format a resume, and how to cut together a quality demo reel. Students will create personal websites, as well as profiles on the major casting websites. We’ll end by discussing the logistics of getting an agent and sustaining an acting career in the Austin market.
Instruction in the techniques used to analyze the fashion image of individual clients. Emphasis on personal coloring, seasonal color harmonies, appropriate fabric textures, body proportion and silhouette, figure, facial and hair analysis, and wardrobe coordination. Introduction to yoga including traditional yoga postures emphasizing flexibility, breathing and relaxation techniques as well as careful attention to alignment in classical yoga poses. Learn the techniques of metal engraving by hand, including tools, equipment, terminology, layout, and the materials used. Create monograms, letters, and other designs and engrave them on various surfaces. Combined with credit JLRY-1475.
An introduction to computer-aided drafting. Emphasis is placed on setup; creating and modifying geometry; storing and retrieving predefined shapes; placing, rotating, and scaling objects, adding text and dimensions, using layers, coordinate systems, and plot/print to scale.
Practice developing information collaboratively in a wiki application in a controlled, organized fashion. Individually, each student will learn how to install and set up a wiki (such as MediaWiki, which drives Wikipedia); handle basic administrative tasks for the wiki; learn how to create and format wiki pages; link to other wiki pages; comment or even edit others' wiki pages; use the discussion feature to discuss pages with others; and use the history and watch features to document and monitor changes to wiki pages. Although MediaWiki may be the featured wiki application, this course can be changed to feature or include other applications such as Drupal or Joomla, depending on students' preferences. This course features a group information-development project.
This course educates the student, whether amateur or professional, on how to bridge the gap between the practices and conditions in natural and cultivated landscapes by applying least-toxic and effective maintenance practices for sustainable landscapes. By broadening the scope of the seven principles of xeriscape to incorporate biological pest management practices, minimization of the use of chemical fertilizers and additives, and landscaping techniques that promote environmental conservation, the student is enriched by this all-encompassing concept of Green Garden Management.
