You will find our studio-based classes in new facilities at the Highland Campus. We also offer lecture-based courses at various campuses. All of our community courses can be converted to credit. An instructional program designed to integrate on-campus study with practical experience in methods and techniques involved in producing a
dance concert; including publicity, lighting, audio, costuming, audition and performance skills, and dance critique. A general survey of dance forms designed to create an appreciation of the vocabulary, techniques and purposes of the creative process. This course includes critical interpretation and evaluations of choreographic works and dance forms within cultural and historical contexts. This course is an examination of the principles of movement generation, phrasing, choreographic structure and motif manipulation. This introductory course in improvisation will investigate spontaneous problem solving as a means of generating movement for dance composition. A survey of dances from different cultures, their histories, and their influences on contemporary dance and society. Cultural origins, significance, motivations and techniques will be explored experientially. Classes meet two days/week in the classroom plus one day/week in the dance studio.
