The following courses are integrated with College Credit classes in Creative Writing and have a limited number of seats for the general public to enroll as a Continuing Education student. These classes offer the content, rigor, and workshop experience that is standard within a Creative Writing classroom. All courses require that students use their Austin Community College email address and regularly access the Blackboard site for instruction.

Creative Writing - Young Litera

Course Description
Integrated Course
This course introduces students to the craft of writing literature for children. Students will explore various forms of children’s literature, including picture books, early readers, middle-grade fiction, and young adult fiction. Emphasis will be placed on creating engaging stories that are relevant to young audiences through writing exercises, peer workshops, examinations of craft, and reading classic and contemporary works. Students will develop their skills in crafting literature for young audiences. Students will actively engage in the local literary community and prepare and submit work for publication. No prior experience in writing children’s literature is required. Combined with credit ENGL-2307.
Creative Writing - Flash Fictio

Integrated Course
This course introduces students to the craft of writing flash fiction. Students will explore techniques for creating compelling characters, strong narratives, and emotional resonance. Through writing exercises, readings, peer workshops, and examinations of craft, students will develop their ability to write concise and powerful stories. Students will actively engage in the local literary community and prepare and submit work for publication. No prior experience in writing flash fiction is required. Combined with credit ENGL-2307.
Creative Writing - Playwriting

Course Description
Integrated Course
This course introduces students to the craft of writing for the stage. Students will explore various forms of theater, including traditional plays, one-act performances, and monologues. Through writing exercises, contemporary script readings, peer workshops, and examinations of craft, students will develop the skills to create original and engaging works for the stage. Students will actively engage in the local literary community and prepare and submit work for publication. No prior experience in playwriting is required. Combined with credit ENGL-2307.
