This course is designed to introduce students to the different forms of writing styles within business and the importance of planning, writing, revising, and editing business messages. Students seeking this course should be able to demonstrate fundamental computer skills and working knowledge of all Microsoft 2013 applications, and demonstrate knowledge of basic parts of speech and punctuation. This course is geared toward supporting students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Legal aspect of small business start-ups. A study of choosing the right attorney, organizing the business structure, and creating the right entity to match the intended business goal, naming the business, contracting (includes commercial transactions, sale/purchase/employment agreements, and leases), learning about employees versus independent contractors, obtaining permits, and paying taxes. Includes implications of the Texas Deceptive Practices Act to small business as well as ADA and federal employment laws.
Study of fundamentals of Japanese: conversation, basic writing, listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary building, grammar, and culture. This course fosters understanding of Japanese-speaking people through cultural comparison and development of written and spoken communication. Combined with credit JAPN-1411.
Continuation of GERM 1411 with more advanced conversation, basic writing, listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary building, grammar, and culture. This course fosters deeper understanding of German-speaking people through cultural comparison and development of written and spoken communication. Students must have completed a first semester college German course of at least four semester hours with a grade of C or better, or have equivalent credit by examination.
The study of physical and financial office practices and marketing. Includes ethical practices for massage therapists as established by law or regulatory agency. Meets the minimum 45-contact-hour requirement for licensure for Massage. Students learn scope of practice, ethical standards, policies and regulations that affect a massage business. Topics include establishing self-care strategies and successful therapeutic relationships; forming professional alliances; attracting particular markets using sales, marketing and retention strategies; and how to apply financial, administrative and insurance processes to the massage profession. Students will create business plan outlines for massage practices. Prerequisite: Completed program application.
Continue the development of jewelry fabrication skills to include precision layout, sawing, and filing; complex assembly tasks; and finishing to professional standards. Prerequisite: JLRY-1001. Combined with credit JLRY-1402.
Introduction to Computer Aided Design And Manufacture...
An introduction to the use of computer aided design software for jewelry to create solid models and tangible objects via STL file export to a computer numerical control prototyping system. Emphasis is placed on drawing set-up; creating and modifying geometry; storing and retrieving files, manipulating objects, using layers, and creating renderings. Basic casting skills, stone-setting skills, and computer experience are recommended for this course. Combined with credit JLRY-1471.
