82322 - Introduction to Writing Young Adult Fiction. Focus on the novel. Prerequisite: English 1301Young Adult Fiction is the world of the teen protagonist: their hopes, doubts, desires, dreams. Intro to Writing YA Fiction will help you build those teen characters, create the worlds (Contemporary, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Dystopian) they live in and shape those stories with dialogue and plot. No previous creative writing is required. This class will ask you to trust your creative impulses through assignments and prompts while teaching you craft tools to shape your stories in your own unique voice. We will use an inclusive, anti-racist approach to sharing our work by listening, learning and creating together as a way to grow our own creative process. Required Text: WHAT?S YOUR STORY? We will accomplish this as a group by exploring various memoir pieces through both reading and writing. Our goals are to sharpen your writing and develop your writing voice. No textbook required. Coursework can be completed fully online with weekly deadlines. There are no in-person requirements.
