This course prepares the teacher candidate to identify and use resources available for planning, and designing interactive TEKS-based lessons with an emphasis on specific content methodology. In addition, the course addresses assessment of the child’s learning and communicating of the child’s progress to parents. Each candidate will plan and teach three micro teaches which will be critiqued.
This course introduces two important accents used for stage, film, television, and video games. In the Fall the offering is American Southern and Australian. Through Knight-Thompson Speechwork, a new standard-bearing approach to speech, students will acquire the skills to convincingly perform these accents. Areas of focus include developing the oral posture, learning how to create the unique pronunciations, and analyzing the “music” (rhythm, tempo, and intonation) of the accent. Studies include native speakers of these accents, and dialogue from stage and screen scripts will be utilized to apply the work. This course is for actors with and without speech training and for people who simply would enjoy learning two interesting accents.
This class is for students with professional experience and/or previous film acting training. Tony Sears focuses on achieving an honest and vulnerable performance for the camera. The emphasis is on energy and making choices that highlight the actor’s power to tell a story. Students will explore the work through scene study from film and television scripts with some videotaping and playback for evaluation. Suggested prerequisite: Two or more beginning acting classes, Acting Explorations, or other previous acting training/experience. Materials needed: internet connection & audio/video capability with computer or tablet; updated (free) Zoom account.
A study of two important forms of the proposal: the grant proposal and the new-business plan (also known as business prospectus). Students learn how to find grants, analyze their requirements, and then write a successful grant proposal. Students also plan a business startup, including funding and marketing research, and then write a business plan promoting the startup to potential investors. Integrated with credit ETWR-1376.
Introduction to yoga including traditional yoga postures emphasizing flexibility, breathing and relaxation techniques as well as careful attention to alignment in classical yoga poses. This course is a comprehensive introduction to Adobe Photoshop with practical applications of digital imaging and preparing photographic artwork for print and digital media. Throughout the course, students will establish proficiency with the Adobe Photoshop interface and tools, and will gain an understanding of file formats, color management, image resolution, and pixel depth for differing output needs. Digital Imaging I is combined with PHTC 1300, and is a pathway into the Department of Professional Photography workforce program.
Aikido is a no punch, no kick art of self-defense. Using Aikido's throwing and pinning arts properly, an attack can be neutralized without inflicting serious injury. At its higher levels, it is an effective discipline for the development, integration and utilization of all human powers-physical, mental and spiritual.
