As a Distance Learning section (virtual, synchronous instruction), students must have Internet access with a Mac running a recent version of Xcode and a browser simultaneously supporting Zoom. Instructions for downloading the course iBook and personal exercise materials will be provided the first day of class. Students should have a basic proficiency with the Mac operating system. This basic knowledge serves as the starting point to build fundamental iOS app development skills with Swift. Students are introduced to the core concepts and practices that professional programmers use daily and will build a basic fluency in Xcode source and UI editors. Students will be able to create iOS apps that adhere to standard practices, including the use of stock UI elements, layout techniques, and common navigation interfaces. Three guided-app projects help students build from the ground up with step-by-step instructions. Xcode playground exercises help students learn key programming concepts in an interactive coding environment that lets them experiment with code and see the results immediately. They’ll also explore app design by brainstorming, planning, prototyping, and evaluating an app idea of their own.
