Introduction to Children?s Literature.  Focus on picture books through middle grade novels.  Prerequisite: English 1301

For many, picture books were our entrance to reading. These magical books opened up worlds of stories that led us to chapter books, to novels, to becoming lifelong readers. In this course, students will explore the world of writing stories for younger readers (picture book, early readers, chapter book and middle grade).  This class will ask you to trust your creative impulses through assignments and prompts while teaching you craft tools to shape your stories in your own unique voice. We will use an inclusive, anti-racist approach to sharing our work by listening, learning and creating together as a way to grow our own creative process.  No previous creative writing is required.  Required text:  WHAT?S YOUR STORY? By Marion Dane Bauer
