In this course, students will learn to use standard English grammar in writing developed academic compositions. Students work on developing effective sentences and using them in their writing. Students are exposed to the modes of classification, cause/effect, process analysis, and argument. This course is designed to further prepare ESOL student to handle the writing tasks they will encounter in college-credit level courses and the workplace. Integrated with credit ESOL-0373. To register for Writing 3 (COMX 4073) you must have (1) a passing grade of C or higher in Writing 2 (COMX 4072) or placement into Writing 3 (COMX 4073) on the ESOL assessment test and (2) a passing grade of C or higher in Grammar 2 (COMX 4096) or placement into Grammar 3 (COMX 4097) or higher on the ESOL assessment test.
Fundamentals of a Chinese martial art form emphasizing health and self-defense (non-contact). It involves slow movements that resemble various animals in motion. This course introduces two important accents used for stage, film, television, and video games. In the Fall the offering is American Southern and Australian. Through Knight-Thompson Speechwork, a new standard-bearing approach to speech, students will acquire the skills to convincingly perform these accents. Areas of focus include developing the oral posture, learning how to create the unique pronunciations, and analyzing the “music” (rhythm, tempo, and intonation) of the accent. Studies include native speakers of these accents, and dialogue from stage and screen scripts will be utilized to apply the work. This course is for actors with and without speech training and for people who simply would enjoy learning two interesting accents.

This is the first course in a series designed to prepare ESOL student to handle the writing tasks they will encounter in college-credit level courses and the workplace. Integrated with credit ESOL-0371. To register for Writing 1 (COMX 4071) you must also be co-enrolled in Grammar 1 (COMX 4095) this semester or have a passing grade of C or higher in Grammar 1 (COMX 4095) or placement into Grammar 2 (COMX 4097) or higher on the ESOL assessment test.
Workshop-style course in which students study the concept of hypertext, learn structuring principles and navigation tools common in online information, create web pages using XHTML and CSS, get an introduction to web page development tools such as Dreamweaver; and overview documentation trends such as structured authoring, single-sourcing, and XML. Integrated with credit ETWR-2473.
This ensemble introduces students to the techniques and rhythms of Afro-Cuban folkloric and popular music. This music, born of African slaves transplanted to Cuba in the 17th and 18th centuries, is rich in West African history and culture. The rumba family of folkloric styles includes yambu, rumba Columbia, and guaguanco and can be traced directly to the Yoruba people in Nigeria. These traditional styles, in addition to the popular cha-cha-cha, mambo, and the mozambique are performed by the ensemble.
Instruction in determining financial needs and owner needs for financial assistance. Identify sources of funds and debt financing; and explain the borrowing process. This course will present different options for funding a small business. Options reviewed will include SBA loans, venture capital, angel funds and others. The course will also review requirements for owner's investment.
