This is a course on Japanese fine arts offered by the Continuing Education division at ACC. No knowledge of the Japanese language is required. The course is designed to introduce students to Japanese culture by way of its most important art forms. Students explore reading/writing haiku poems, folding origami, learning some kanji (Chinese characters), practicing calligraphy using those kanji and learning about and playing the Taiko drum in order to expand an appreciation of Japanese culture and language.
Focuses on aspects of substance abuse prevention from a public health model. Topics include the history of prevention, risk and protective factors among youth, community-based prevention strategies, program design and evaluation, and resources for prevention planning. Also includes budgeting, tracking Texas use tax, handling credit card income and expenses, exporting/importing files, working with payroll, and troubleshooting. Suggested prerequisites: familiarity with the PC, and ACNT 1002 Accounting course, or working knowledge of accounting.
Learn the techniques of metal engraving by hand, including tools, equipment, terminology, layout, and the materials used. Create monograms, letters, and other designs and engrave them on various surfaces. Combined with credit JLRY-1475.
