This course is designed to prepare pharmacy personnel to handle, store, and administer various vaccinations to adult, adolescent, and pediatric patients. Incorporates Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and relevant best practice standards for immunization education and training. Prepares pharmacists and technicians with the resources, knowledge, and skills necessary to provide safe and effective immunization services. This course combines a two-day live workshop, along with pre-course reading, and significant online/distance learning (DIL) coursework, and a proctored, written examination(s), to train pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in vaccine storage, preparation, and administration. All course activities are designed to be completed within a 12-week semester. The two-day, hands-on workshop is held in our state-of-the-art training facility in Austin, Texas. All other coursework is completed online using our Blackboard Learning Management System. Hands-on training includes: draw techniques, reconstitution of power/dehydrated vaccine, intramuscular and subcutaneous vaccine administration, etc. The total estimated time required to complete this course is 48 hours (live workshop combined with home-study). CPE activity completers will receive a frame-able certificate of completion and upload of ACPE credit of 4.8 CEUs (48 hours) into CPE monitor. This is a Practice-Based Activity. Prerequisites: State Board of Pharmacy registration or licensure (pharmacists, students, technicians), and/or certified pharmacy technician; and ≥ 1 year of pharmacy experience. Must have current CPR/BLS from an American Heart Association provider. Preferred: Completion of ACC’s Sterile Compounding and Aseptic Technique (SCAT) course, PHRA 1091.
