Meet Your Instructor

Elizabeth A. Warren

Elizabeth Warren has been a credentialed veterinary technician in Texas since 1995, first as an RVT and currently as an LVT. She helped to create the Veterinary Assistant Program in 1999 by developing some of the first courses offered, and has been an instructor with the program ever since. She currently teaches Veterinary Pharmacology, Nutrition, and Clinical Pathology; Canine and Feline Clinical Management and Veterinary Anesthesia and Surgical Assistance, co-teaches Introduction to Veterinary Technology, and supervises the Veterinary Assistant Practicum.

Elizabeth also works as an emergency veterinary technician on weekends and holidays, where cases can range from a cat with a cold to a dog hit by a car. In her spare time, she hangs out at the Veterinary Support Personnel Network, an online community for veterinary staff, where she moderates message boards and chats, reviews textbooks, and occasionally teaches classes.

After graduating from a Humanities magnet high school, Elizabeth studied biology and journalism at California State University. She worked as a veterinary assistant part-time while in school, and when she moved to Austin in 1994 she decided to make veterinary medicine a career. She holds an AAS in veterinary technology from San Juan College in New Mexico and a BA in liberal studies from TESU. Along the way, Elizabeth also studied medical lab technology and technical communications at ACC.

Reading, writing, and learning are Elizabeth's favorite pastimes. She is a contributing author to several publications, including The VSPN Notebook, Mosby's Comprehensive Review for Veterinary Technicians (pharmacology chapter), Tasks for the Veterinary Assistant (post-operative techniques chapter), Texas Veterinarian magazine, Veterinary Technician magazine, and Technically Speaking newsletter.

Elizabeth has also contributed items to the Texas RVT (TVMA) exam and the Veterinary Technician National Exam (AAVSB). She is a past-president of the Texas Association of Registered Veterinary Technicians and currently sits on the Technician Oversight Committee of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association.
