General Botany for Landscape Design & Horticulture
An introduction to basic botany as it directly relates to horticulture and landscaping. This course will cover the fundamentals of plant biology, plant growth, plant development, plant anatomy, photosynthesis, respiration/transpiration, and a range of factors that can affect plant development in a cultivated environment.
*This class is taught asynchronously, which means there are no set meeting times and the students are able to complete the lessons and activities at their own pace through Blackboard. However, live sessions will be held as needed. The information will be posted to Blackboard Announcements.
This course is designed specifically for adults 18+ with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Students develop entry-level and intermediate skills for the workforce. Includes professionalism, interpersonal skills, communication, workplace civility, and employability skills. Application, assessment and interview required prior to admittance. An exploration and identification of maladaptive behavior including characteristics, classification, diagnosis, and treatment modalities. Topics include factors associated with defining and identifying abnormal behavior. Integrated with college credit SCWK 2331.
This class is for students with professional experience and/or previous film acting training. Tony Sears focuses on achieving an honest and vulnerable performance for the camera. The emphasis is on energy and making choices that highlight the actor’s power to tell a story. Students will explore the work through scene study from film and television scripts with some videotaping and playback for evaluation. Suggested prerequisite: Two or more beginning acting classes, Acting Explorations, or other previous acting training/experience. Materials needed: internet connection & audio/video capability with computer or tablet; updated (free) Zoom account.
An introduction to Integrated Pest Management (IPM): Concepts, principles, development, and application of IPM. Examine insect life cycles, entomology, and ecological interactions of insects and plants. IPM constitutes a series of pest control tactics and strategies toward more sustainable agriculture, natural resources, and urban and rural health and well-being. Combined with credit AGCR-1393.
Workshop-style course in which students study the concept of hypertext, learn structuring principles and navigation tools common in online information, create web pages using XHTML and CSS, get an introduction to web page development tools such as Dreamweaver; and overview documentation trends such as structured authoring, single-sourcing, and XML. Integrated with credit ETWR-2473.
